What is your website all about?
It’s about me, eating everything in sight. NOM NOM NOM. I post a lot of recipes I love, and I categorize them from stupid easy to stupid hard. Sometimes I do food reviews of restaurants in the Minneapolis St. Paul area.
Have you really eaten everything? There must be something you don’t like!
I’ve eaten a lot of things, but definitely not everything, it is however one of my lifetime aspirations. There are definitely things I don’t like, I’m very adventurous when it comes to eating so I’ve definitely tasted things I wanted to spit out 2 seconds later (durian you vile disgusting thing).
What are the more exotic things you’ve eaten?
- Brains of pigs, cows, ducks, fish etc.
- Animal innards of all kinds and shapes (I honestly don’t think there is an innard that I haven’t eaten)
- Durian
- Stinky Tofu
- Big Fat Turtle
- Snakes and Gators and other weird reptiles
- Chicken Blood
- Haggis (goes with the innards thing I guess)
What are some of your ingredients that most other people wouldn’t use?
I am a big fan of meat, so a lot of my flavoring components come from meat byproducts such as marrow bones for soup base. I also love pork belly, and all kinds of animal fats. Although I do like animal innerds, they are a bit harder to aquire at the normal grocery store, so my recipes tend to not use them. I do cook a mean chicken liver however! Another favorite ingredient of mine is anchovy paste. I will sneak it into dishes in lieu of salt. And I have a great appreciation for fish flavors so I love to use fish sauce (but don’t ever watch how they make it, it will make your stomach churn).
What do you really really hate in terms of food?
I wouldn’t say that I hate anything, I’m one of those people that tries to like an ingredient by giving it multiple chances. For instance I used to hate olives with a passion, especially kalamata olives. I’d pick them out of everything. Sean would use black olives sometimes in his tacos, and I started eating them a little because I wanted to appreciate the olive more. After a while, I started to actually like black olives and moved up to pizza with green olives on top. Then I was unstoppable, I was buying kalamata olives to make pasta puttanesca. I was buying bulk olive tapenade. Now I can say olives are definitely one of my favorite ingredients! I have a similar experience with ginger and star anise. When I was little, my mom would make chinese food and she would throw in whole pieces of ginger or star anise. I wouldn’t really look at my food before I take a giant bite, or mistaken a piece of ginger for a piece of potato, and get a huge mouthful of vile disgusting ginger. I hated using ginger for the longest time and would omit it from my recipes because I got so sensitive to the flavor. I wouldn’t even eat the pickled ginger that comes with sushi. It was eating sushi that made me really love ginger flavor too, I would eat one or two pieces of pickled ginger and wrinkle my nose at it, every time I ate sushi. Then I realized I kind of liked it… and now I eat all my ginger, and all of other people’s ginger as well!
I do still have hatred for super crusty breads tho. I will scoop out the soft innerds and set the crust on Sean’s plate like he did it. I’m pretty sure I will never eat the crust off of bread because it’s too much fun putting my bread crust on his plate.
Who the hell is Sean? Wait, who the hell are you?
Sean is my fiancee and I am Evie of the evie dot org. I’ve had this domain for a good 10 years or so, and it used to be a personal livejournal blog and eventually led to this. We live in Minneapolis, with our two dogs Loki and Freya who are my cleanup squad. They lick up anything that’s dropped onto the floor. We are getting married in May of 2010, with a followup reception in China in October/Novemberish. I will try to eat many more exotic living creatures and document them thoroughly.
What else do you do other than eat everything in sight?
I am an avid gamer, so if my blog is quiet for a while, you know that an awesome game just got released. I also keep saks, neiman marcus, nordstrom, j crew, and many many stores afloat with my excessive spending there. I would like to say that photography is a hobby but I’ve been really slacking in that area other than shooting pictures of my food, and sometimes looking up why my pictures look like shit. We purchased a Canon EOS Rebel T1i 15.1 MP CMOS Digital SLR Camera with 3-Inch LCD and EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS Lens and we are looking to buy a macro lens very soon for my food shots, and for his miniture painting addiction.
